The IE-MiniMc provides a conversion between 10/100 UTP and 100Base-FX multi-mode, single-mode or single-strand fiber. IE-MiniMc allows operation in extreme temperatures, and offers several power and mounting options. The IE-MiniMc also features three different power options: you can power it with an AC power adaptor, or via DC terminal blocks with a range between 7-50VDC, or even with Power over Ethernet. Use a combination of power options at the same time when redundancy is necessary.

The MiniMc Series extends 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps twisted pair network segments over regular duplex (up to 40 km) or single-strand fiber optics (up to 60 km). Both a media and data rate converter, MiniMc features 10/100 Auto Negotiation on the twisted pair port while the fiber port operates at 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet full duplex. MiniMc is the most versatile fiber converter in today's market; the miniature media converter ships with an external AC power supply, or you can order a USB power cable, or install the unit into the IE-PowerTray/18 which allows 18 conversions in only 1.5U of rack space.

SFPs and XFPs (Small Form-Factor Pluggable Tranceivers) are compact transceivers which function as modular connectors. Available for copper (RJ-45) and for all common fiber modes, wavelengths and data rates, they allow network operators to connect different interface types into the same network equipment, via an SFP/XFP port. The cost of cable upgrades is greatly reduced - preserving the investment in costly networking equipment, for the price of a relatively inexpensive SFP or XFP. More and more network equipment is being designed with these ports, to take advantage of their flexibility, and to take the uncertainty and guesswork out of expensive equipment purchases.
